In the fall of 1988 German environmentalists and writers were invited by the Russian first lady, Raissa Gorbatschowa and the Soviet writers guild to a unique event. The topic of their meeting was nothing less than the environmental impact of the Soviet production system. Three inspection teams went out to Leningrad, Chernobyl and Siberian Lake Baikal. For the first time cameras were allowed to film every step. Glasnost means Transparency. Joerg Altekruse and his Stadtjournal team created a rare document and presented it at the Hamburg Filmfest 1989.
